Of course you aren’t taking into account the fairly decent hill in the middle of the prologue. Mayo’s choice seemed reasonable to me, and certainly didn’t cost him much, if any, over the aero choices of the others in this prologue. I’m not so sure your implication that the gap is larger than the results is warranted. Frankly, I think Mayo is going to do himself a disservice if he goes all out for the DL win. He may, indeed, have what it takes in July, but not if he burns too many matches in June. It’ll certainly make for good rumor mongering until then, though.

I agree with you. He has stated that he he would like to win Dauphine, though. I personally think he might be the man to beat at the Tour. I definitely see him as the favorite for the L’Alpe d’Huez TT.
Man oh man is mayo can TT this year in the TDF man he is going to give people a run for their money especially with the new rules wit the Team Time Trial and the uphill TT…
Man this is going to be one of the best tours ever…
i agree with that last part. but as for any “change” in the tt’ing pecking order - he also won the prologe in the dl last year, if i remember correctly. just food for thought…
I agree with you. Several of the favorites have had major wins this year - Mayo, Armstrong, Hamilton, Heras(just won the Euskal Bizikleta & had a strong TT). Ullrich is starting to round into shape but* might* be waiting too late. I see those 5 battling out the top 5 places. It should be great to see.

He also placed a close 2nd in another TT a month or so ago. I don’t know that he’s in the Ullrich/Armstrong class yet(for a flat TT), but he’s definitely improved.
You guys are all missing a vital puzzle piece! Look where Oscar Sevilla came!!! On Tyler’s Phonak team - what lesson did USPS teach us the last 5 years?? You need a team to win TdF - Mayo may be a bit short in that dept. but lets not forget that Oscar has challenged the TdF podium before AND now with Tyler…
I predict that Phonak will have a VERY good TdF - but still think Lance will win.
ummm … i see the aero gear differences … LA’s all aeroed up and mayo’s not, but for those of us less pro-cycling savy … what else should i be infering from these pics, other than mayo has some damn big quads? … and how does this apply to tour? it seems like it would be predicting who would win the superbowl by the preseason game results … who is taking it seriously and who is trying stuff out determines who wins and rarely relates to who’s there in the end.
thanks
