?Max wind speed for a disc wheel?

I`m asking because I never ride a disc before…

My racing setup: a set 404`s and a Renn 575.

I will do IM Cozumel in november and for sure, the wind will blow hard! I`m around 195-200 pounds and (I think!) I have good handling…

From what speed I should stick with the 404`s???

Thanks

jf

I did a race with a disc wheel during constant 70mph winds (Hurricane Ike during a HIM in Ohio- newbz and some others were there). I’m still alive.

At 200 lbs and a 404 up front - you should be good unless a storm with a name is bearing down …

I’m 155-160 lbs with a Hed Jet 90 and rear Renn and I’m fine with winds to 50 mph (i.e. Rockman last year)

In fact, the windier, the better if running a disc!

I’ve never had a problem and from what I’ve read on ST at your weight you can pretty much always benefit from a disk, faster the wind, more the benefit. The most wind I’ve raced in was IMAZ (April 08) and it was 25mph gusts (according to the weather report) and I used an 808/Disk with no problem at all.

Again at your weight (I’m 165-170) you’re probably strong enough to hold an 808 in any wind condition you would encounter, except maybe Kona…

Good luck!

Roger that!

So all the way for the disc!!!

Thanks

On a windy day, the 404 in the front will give you problems long before the disc in the back will. Go with the disc. I used to train on a spoked wheel with CH covers with no handling problems (I’m 180).

Its all relative… I find the only time a disc is a liability is when the wind is FAST and Gusty. Also don’t forget that a disc acts as a sail when you have a relative tailwind.

I was there, rode a H3 front and a Jet 90 rear. Wish I brought the disc, it would have been better.
