Mavic Yksion Tubulars

Anyone know anything about them? Biggest thing, do they have latex tubes?

Hi - Yes the tubes are latex.
They have removable valve cores, too! Makes them easy to install valve extenders or add sealant if you care to.
There’s a good amount of tech info (rubber compound, casing, etc) on the Mavic website www.mavic.com.

Interesting. I wonder what factory these come out of?

I believe they are made by the Lion Tire company.

Thanks, one other question, do you know where or if you can buy the rubber gasket thingy that filled the space between the tire and rim that was shown for some of the TT wheels?

Yes, they are made by Lion Tyre. The quality is on par with the best in the business - the whole goal of the tire project was to try to get tire tolerance up to par with wheel tolerance. Roundness, straightness of casing, bead seat diameter, etc. It’s harder to control dimensions on tires, but the Mavic tire guys have really done a solid job. So you get a really good fit between wheel and tire.

The ring that you saw in the Tour de France, used to seal the gap between tire and wheel, is pure prototype. Mavic is pushing really hard to achieve breakthroughs in aerodynamics. The foam ring isn’t available at the moment, and requires a special wheel, anyway.
