Mavic deep dish rear wheel?

I saw some pics on the kona bike pictures on the front page. Anybody have the deep dish? Is it only tubular or is it also a clincher. I guess I could look online, but I am too lazy.

Just curious.

Hi,
Cosmic Carbone 80 is the newer 80mm carbon tubular in the Mavic range. It’s a wheel-tyre system, meant to go with the supplied Mavic tubular tires. The rim profile is shaped to mate with the tire profile for really nice, low drag interface between wheel and tire.

Tubular only. There might be a clincher in the works but I’ve never seen nor heard of it, so can’t say.

Yeah I hate googling stuff… starting a thread is way easier

What is the front wheel that Cyril Viennot used at Kona - described as a Cosmic Carbone 60? Are Mavic intending to release a shallower front that is otherwise the same as the CC80 rear?

for now, we’ll have to wait and see …

Zack,

How does the Mavic CC80 front handle in a crosswind? The reason I ask is that I have arranged sponsorship to run Mavic wheels for 2012 and am tossing up between the Cosmic Carbone SLR and CC80. The wheelset will be used for both non-drafting triathlon (Olympic distance and 70.3) and road racing.

My main concern is handling of that deep front (in both road racing and triathlon) might be problematic for me given that I’m 145 pounds, 6 ft 1. Any rider feedback from the Garmin Cervelo team, or those that raced in Kona on the deep pair, that you can share?

Cheers

Matt

.

CC SLR is clincher, CC80 is tubular, so it’s a bit hard to compare which is the “right” wheel. … a little bit apples to oranges.

Further, I’m not the right person to answer this question - I’m obviously biased. I think CC80 does well in crosswind but you should probably see if there’s anyone else out there with more experience.

congrats on your sponsorship opportunity and have a great racing season!
