One of my goals is to solo the Maui Channel (about 10 miles). But it makes sense to do it first as part of a relay. Just throwing this out there - anyone interested in teaming up? Representing ST? The divisions are separated by combined age of the team members. I’m 54 and I’m shooting for the 300+ division and a time close to 4:00, which just might win it. I’ve done 2 ironmans with 56 (2005) & 57 (2007) minute swims. Last summer, I did a 5k swim in 1:18 (no wetsuit) The race is in September. Anyone game? http://www.mauichannelswim.com/
Doubt I could swing Maui, but would be interested in splitting one of the longer Santa Barbara routes. I will either do that or do the 12 mile route solo this year I think.
Half - I tried to get the local masters group interested a while back but couldn’t. We did a relay across the English Channel a few years ago, 10:24 in 54 - 57 degree water. I would consider joining a Maui group so keep me in the loop and PM me anytime. The only real problem is that I’ve already made all my reservations for Kona in Oct and two trips to Hi in two months might be more than the wallet can stand. Thanks.
I have a friend who is putting a mixed team (3 men / 3 women). I am not sure where he is at in the process. If you would like I can put you in touch with him.

Tell me more about Santa Barbara races - only 2 hours away from home
.
that’s mighty cold water. I’m ok in around 65 deg w/o wetsuit but not sure THAT cold! I might be looking to extend that Maui vacation thru the 17th to include both the channel swim and the half-marathon. Kill two races in one trip!
I’m game… fire away!
The 5k swim is my longest yet, but I loved it and finished strong - spotting and passing 3 people in the last 15 minutes or so. So, I think I would be good doubling that but no more just yet. When are planning your swim?
You should change your vacation dates and come to Hawaii in December for the Double Roughwater (advertised as 7 k) and the Honolulu marathon double. The first 4 finishers of the swim were all over 50, so you will fit right in to the mix.
