Matthew Marquardt Charges to Big Win in Lake Placid; Solveig Lovseth Confirms Her Status as One to Watch

Pardon my mistake, I know none of these names and I guess it is now obvious as to my lack of depth in the womens fields…

Tbh when you’re digging 19th place in a women’s IM field I don’t think that more than a handful know the names…

To be fair, the same can be said of the men’s pro field:

#18 Milosz Sowinski
#19 Juan Ignacio Villarruel Curra

We saw a lot of Curra (#19) on Sunday. He was the ‘MPro’ who rode for over two hours (mile 10 to mile 54) with Perterer, Sanchez and Lawrence, until Perterer had to stop at the penalty tent.
Maybe he had a great run after that? Nope: 2:54. Almost exactly an hour behind Marquardt. Wasn’t he also the guy who then stuck with Perterer for a long period?

who got the slots? Way more men were still after it (e.g. Currie) and the last slot was 9th based on race results. There must’ve been a lot of people not taking it.

@dafa13 has shared the data from Thorsten

He offers insight.
Do not be confused: @Titanflexr was just pointing out how ‘unknown’ the athletes placed #19 and #20 in MPro are, as well.

The field in WPro and MPro had different influences. IMLP is not too late for the women given Kona is 4 weeks later so a dozen were already KQ and they were going for their second IM Pro Series score.

For the men no serious challenger (top 10 potential, say) for IMWC (on 14th September) will race IMLP unless there’s a season complication which forces it. This was the case for Marquardt, Hoegenhaug and Chevalier. Credit to Foley for racing a competitive race. West had to synch his debut with his T100 contract (NB not racing London).

Ok but it is a massive difference if someone ranked 9th vs someone ranked 19th gets the slot. Perhaps just an indication of lack of depth in female field if a lot of the girls were already qualified.

Hopefully she will have a trisuit full of sponsors by the time she gets to Kona.

I assume her existing sponsors were federation or short course specific?

Huh? your response is completely unrelated to my message.

My bad, sorry just replied to last comment and thought I had deleted your link.

I’m with Lagoon: stay white (or better a discrete colour) trisuit. I think she will get better deals once she confirms her mettle on the biggest stage of all.
In order of climbing the steps:
LCB
Knibb
Derron
Matthews
Sodaro
Loevseth
Philipp

Nah, just make a Kona only agreement if she doesn’t have anything else lined up and is happy with the product. What’s the harm in getting $5k + bonus vs nothing for a single race?

Speculatively, she may be worth more to a post-Kona sponsor if she doesn’t have to switch. New is better than used.

It’s a great subject for @Kyleglass91 to ask Pat and @Tritalkingfacts on PTN though

This plus a decent bike or good aero gains.

She has the potential to be top 5 at Kona so she should take advantage now that she has qualified.
