Matt MF'n McElroy

After today’s 2nd place in Leeds, Matt deserves his own thread…It’s been a long time since an American male has podiumed in a stacked ITU field…

He looked in control the entire way and was able break JG the last 400 mtrs. It was so cool to watch Gomez give in and turn his head to glance back and protect his 3rd place.

Congratulations to Matt and hopefully many more for him.
His time is here. Can he make the most of it?

It would be great to dump this thread for an AMA. I don’t think i’ve ever read one from an ITU athlete.

Great race.

Agree, he”looked solid whole run…made jake, a known closer, , start a little earlier. And Gomez what an athlete.

Where can you find the results?

HUGE day for the USA men with Matt’s performance over a truly stacked field; but, let’s also recognize Morgan Pearson for Silver at the Huatulco ITU World Cup. Not quite Leeds, but he solidly beat some recognizable athletes, several on their home turf. Summer (Cook) Rappaport also showed her bike skills and confidence for the second straight ITU event. And, of course, the #1 ranked female triathlete in the world, Katie Z, taking Silver in Leeds - 2 Golds and a Silver this year. Still a year out, but Team USA is looking as strong as it has in a long, long time.

Ali Brownlee lays an egg off the bike… injured or saving himself for his IM?

Actually, both ran pretty poorly.

I follow him on Strava - bet a few folks may follow him now.
