I know these questions open up an opportunity for the truly humorous of us to jump in. I appreciate any real information anyone can give.

finally a question i can put some input to. I’ve been going for massages pretty much since i swam in college. I swear by them, i have lower back issues due to tearing a muscle along time ago running track. I go once every week and a half to two weeks and i love it. i usually do it on my off day to so it forces me to not do anything but relax. As far as choosing one goes there are acreditation boards, sometimes if there is a massage school around you you can go for pretty cheap, may not be grade A but they are cheap. I saw three when i moved up to NH from FL before i found my current one so sometimes its trial and error. As far as how you feel the next day, they are some of my best workouts i ever have. All the nasty’s are flushed out of your system. pm me if you have any more questions

How about using “the stick”, does that help flush out toxins, or get rid of knots?

I have found that using a baseball to loosen knots/adhesions in my butt and using a roller pin (WalMart - $5.00) to loosen knots/adhesions in my quads has helped more than getting a massage. The baseball and roller pin hurt like hell, but provide immediate relief. Cost much less than a massage therapist.

To clarify–I sit on the baseball and place it on/roll it around the knots/adhesions in my butt. I lay on the roller pin and place it on/roll it around the knots/adhesions in my quads.

As often as possible. At least once per month. If I had a choice, I’d do an hour every day.

Choose like choosing a doctor: referral from people you trust. That said, find one who uses a variety of techniques, since technique is adopted individually to fit your preferences and needs. With a one-technique LMT, you might have trouble finding a good fit for you.

I’ve never had a cramp linger. But I have had delayed-onset muscle soreness. Massage works great for recovery. I’m always astonished to hear doctors (mostly MDs) who say that massage “still isn’t proven” or “I’m not sold on it”. I have to wonder what planet they’re on.
