Marty Nothstein and my dad

My father just got back from seeing some drag races. He’s been around cars all his life so he went down to the pits to talk with some of the crew and drivers. He’s talking to the crew of the Texas Roadhouse sponsored alcohol drag race car. He asks where the driver is and they say he went for a bike ride with another guy. Then, they say he’s back so my father goes to talk with the race car driver, a guy named Marty Nothstein. They get to talking and my father is telling him how he rides bicycles too, that his son does those “marathon” things on his bicycles and that he’s done the BRAG ride across Georgia with me. My father is from Rochester, NY and he tells Marty how they have a big bike race there, the Rochester Twilight Criterium. Marty is being so polite and says how he went to that race, knows about BRAG and the races I do. My father is really surprised how this race car driver knows so much about bicycles.

Then my father goes to watch the race and when they introduce Marty before the race, they tell everyone about his gold medals, his world titles and all the bicycle races he’s won. My father said he opened the program that Marty signed and read his stats and couldn’t believe it. He said his, "doh! was probably louder than the car engines.

My father could just not believe how nice Marty was as he went on telling him how he rides bicycles.

So Marty went from bike racing to drag racing?

Cute story!

That’s awesome. Now we need Nelson Vails to get behind the wheel for a grudge match!

Not to say Vails would lose, but when he won his silver at the 84 games, I think Marty was like…10. I think we should get Nelson Vails and Mark Gorski to challenge Marty Nothstein and Erin Hartwell, and call it “Cougars vs. Kittens”
