When I read that story yesterday I was trying to figure out how eating a raw random organ from a random animal would give you good health. Are rodents renowned for good health and I missed the memo?
The only real surprise was that it didn’t start with, “A Florida man…”

And eating the organs raw? And thinking that will make you healthier?
I’ve eaten rabbit and squirrel but I’ve never been a fan at all of eating organs of any kind. They are bad enough breaded and fried. Beef liver makes me want to vomit.
I’ll never know but I’m going to assume raw kidney is tough, chewy, and tastes bloody. Not exactly the qualities I am looking for in a health elixir.

I have a Peruvian friend who assures me that guinea pig are delicious, especially the feet which are crisp and crunchy.
My initial thought when I read your post was that nutria are native to South America, I didn’t realise they were farmed in other parts of the world.
I’d be offended if I were a possum and had been called a rodent.

Bringing them back from the brink of extinction is a great reason to protect those adorable little fellas. Besides, isn’t it time to go ride mountain bikes now?

The Vancouver Island marmot is critically endangered and lives in a small area in Canada (including the area around the aforementioned ski hill). There are loads of other varieties elsewhere in the Rockies, though.

Haven’t been to southern Louisiana have you? Not farmed, per say, but the State has a long-standing bounty program established to harvest 400,000 of them annually – they are hell on the marshes. I believe eating them was officially encouraged at one time, but it’s tough to put catchy adjectives in front of swamp rat on menus.
