Marathon Recovery (3)

I ran a pretty hard race yesterday and am paying for it!!! Quads are the main culprit. I am generally an “active recovery” kind of gal but running just isn’t going to fly for a few days, and usually my soreness/post-race pain is not enough to warrant time needed off from an easy recovery run. So I am wondering, is it best if I just rest this one out completely and let the quads recover, or might some easy, low-impact spin time on the bike be of benefit? Had some major cramping immediately post race that subsided within an hour or so. Getting into/out of chairs, and going down steps are my present day nightmares.

Did you run in Bermuda?

So do some active recovery. Easy spinning, easy swimming, walk the dog, massage…all good options.

Don’t rush back into the long stuff…

I ran a marathon yesterday too

I had a bottle of wine and some chocolate, feel pretty ok today.

=)

I ran in Houston, in Bermuda-like weather!

How’d it go? I found the Pacifico’s went down quite nicely (and quickly) for me. . .

Bah.

I ran a 1/2 yesterday, not really ready for it. Cramped at mile 10, walked three miles and today I have to go down stairs backwards. But, I’ve been there before, be great in a couple days.

On the + side, I got home in time to see the second half of the Cardinal game. W00T!!!

I’m definitely using the railings for the stairs today!

I assume you did PF Chang’s. You did the half AND missed half of the game. Did you spend a little extra time in the beer tent? I did the full and made it home for the kick off.

The day after my first marathon the friend I was staying with kicked me out the door and told me to go run for 30 minutes.

I remember every step of it, savoring all the new and unfamiliar aching in my legs as I ran under the streetlights on Cottage Street, down to the pier.

(go swim or something…)

stairs:

walk down them backward

(try not to trip)
