Marathon Kids

It is good to see a program that gets kids active.

edit: i’m stupid

good program good idea
.

They are running the marathon in bits and pieces, 1/4 - 1/2 mile at a time, over a period of a month or so.

At least it isn’t a Doom tournament.

My 9 year old son is doing Marathon Kids for the 4th time. It’s been a great experience for him and was partially the inspiration for him to start doing kid’s tri’s this last spring. Any program that get’s kids outside and away from Pokemon or Yugio cards/games is great!

Thanks for the post. I was just asked to be the fill in PE teacher for my sons 2nd grade class. With all the cuts in California schools PE is gone. I will use this idea for a 10k of a half mary because I will be there only once a week.

Yea, my 7 yr old daughter is doing this for the third year. It’s great to have her BEG me to take her to the track to do laps. I tell you what, though, between looking for lizards and chasing grasshoppers, she is able to get in 2 miles during a session. Amazing. I get in my 4-5 miles or so at the same time. Its great.

The PE coach also will let them do laps during PE, and give them hand stamps for each lap completed to “authenticate” that she did laps at school, so that I can keep track of the milage.

I live in Round Rock (Austin), TX, but not sure if it is a district-wide program, or just optional for whichever schools want to encourage it.

My 6 year old did on this spring and had a blast. She wants to do it again next year and she wants to do a duathlon.
