Manhattan Island Marathon Swim

I cannot imagine the water conditions (i.e., what’s in it, not the current or roughness), the distance or having to leave the Predator 2 on shore. Tough people.

yuck!

I was invited to do this race years ago (probably 10 or more) when it was still a smaller race. Ended up bailing out b/c I had just done a 25K open water race and was pretty physically wiped out. I always contemplate it but have never tried to get in.

Did it many years and it’s still one of one of my favorites races. The water quality isn’t that bad (as the organizers love to say), especially in the Hudson River half of the swim. Very cool swimming under all those bridges during the first half (eerie creaking noises as you pass under). Worst thing I encountered was a plastic bag. Very low-key race and a cool way to see the city!
