I like to watch the show and point out to my wife what I think is fake. She would always try to explain how it could be real. Should be fun to hear bear explain this one.

I like the concept of the show, and love Survivor Man, but have been disenchanted with Man Vs Wild. I no longer watch it unless there is nothing else on.
They mention the “wild” horses. I had an idea he was out in somebody’s field since those horses let him approach them. If they were truly wild, they would have probably shied away.
One funny thing. He was in some canyon somewhere in a desert and had just swam and waded through some water. He climbed out and then told the tv that if his t-shirt was wet and he wrapped it around his head, it would keep him cooler. So, he peed on his shirt and then put it on. My thoughts were, you just left a canyon full of water, but now decide to pee on your shirt?
Another episode showed him in the Everglades. He was talking about how he needed to find food. He kept walking by palmetta bushes that are edible if you pull out the new shoots and eat the white part. But he forgot to mention that.
Channel 4 said in a statement that Born Survivor was “not an observational documentary series, but a ‘how-to’ guide to basic survival techniques in extreme environments”.
I saw him eat almost decaying zebra flesh in an episode.
If people believe that reality shows are unscripted and authentic, then they get what they have coming … Disappointment.
its pretty funny sometimes, like the other night when he sneaked up on some jackrabbits in a field and threw a stick at them…cut to picture of him roasting a rabbit over a spit…YEAH RIGHT!
And he always manages to get a fire going by rubbing 2 sticks together…ummm humm.

If that were done so easily, Pinocchio would have burned up long ago. Sorry, just remembering an old joke from junior high.
It’s clearly fake. I just wish they acknowledged it. I enjoy the show and think it’s interesting, but they just need to make a disclaimer. Survivorman is much more authentic, but Les doesn’t carry the show as well as Bear can.
HAHA, I thought the same thing when he stumbled on ‘wild’ horses. Like wild horses are going to let you walk right up to them in the open and jump on their back.
you just ruined my favorite show

.
Someone else in another thread mentioned Gryll’s penchant for peeing. Pee in a bottle to keep warm at night. Pee on your shirt to keep you cool. Pee in a cup to keep hydrated.
I suppose the lesson to be taken from that is what the show is attempting to do is be educational to some degree, and entertainment to another degree. Hmm, just got dropped off in the nether worlds of Scotland and voila! There’s a dead deer to skin and use its pelt to keep warm…what sheer luck!
And yeah, the “wild” horses incident was indeed comical…though at least there was some degree of realism there when he couldn’t actually hop on one and ride away…
I’m sure there’s some applicability to what is depicted on the show, and as entertainment I enjoy it immensely, if for nothing else to see what predicaments he decides to get himself into and how he extricates himself from them.
But if you’ll excuse me, I’m thirsty and have to pee…
I watched two episodes of the show while I was in Bend recently. He’s a huckster.
Here’s what I want to know, though: Why is he always in such a freaking hurry? In one episode, he “needed” to cross a river at the bottom of a canyon. He said, “I could climb around to the other side, but jumping into the river will save me several hours.” Or something like that. Then he jumped into the cold river, which was about the dumbest thing possible in a survival situation.
What’s his rush?
I think he’s trying to demonstrate that in true survival situations, there’s a limited amount of time one might have to get either down from elevation or into a less prickly situation…I agree, it would seem to me that jumping in a freezing cold river would be the last thing I would do in that sort of predicament, but perhaps there are times when that would make sense.
Just trying to think of one at the moment…
If there’s a bear chasing you, maybe.
Huckster.
What’s his rush?
It’s an hour show?
lol!
But where is he *going?! *I wish I had watched the whole thing at least once.
**Huckster. **
You’re just pissed you didn’t think of it first…I know I am!

one episode he was floating down a raging river on a float he made, and you could clearly see he was wearing a big life jacket under his sweat shirt, and then poof when he got out of the water it was gone. Then once when he was climbing the side of a waterfall he had a climbing harness on. My favorite thing I have seen him do was squeeze elephant poop and drink the moisture from it…and this guy is married? His show is a total joke.
The show likes to mention how hardcore Bear is… but think about it… if this was real, woudn’t the camerman that is lugging all the equipment and still doing everything Bear is doing be even more hardcore?
I gotta agree, that dude is pretty fake. I mean, it seems that he has to climb something everywhere he goes. I saw this one episode of him the jungle in Costa Rica, and he rock climbs up this waterfall. I find it hard to believe that there wasn’t an easier way up the hill. In a true survival situation, the name of the game is conserving what energy you have…this guy gives it away in big bucket loads doing crap that isn’t necessary, and taking chances that are potentially lethal if you are truly in a solo survival situation…breaking a limb in the jungle could well end up being fatal if you are by yourself and are relying on your own locomotion to either get food and water or walk out of the situation.
Spot
I have been a bit suspicious by the wonderful camera shots. like how did the camera guys follow him??
I guess I gave the show the benefit of the doubt since it was on Discovery.
What about Survivorman?? fake or real?
Another episode showed him in the Everglades
He built the little treehouse to sleep in… where did the camera crew sleep? Inflatable raft?
