Malibu Nautica Tri OPEN $162, Yikes!

So today the Nautical Malibu Triathlon registration opened. I paid $155 plus $7 processing fee. YIKES!!! This is the Olympic distance on Saturday September 13th.

I just think that is a bit expensive for an Olympic race. I paid $260 for FL70.3 a month ago (late registration). I never done this Olympic distance race and that is why I paid for it. But next year, I don’t know if Ill be racing it if the cost is this much.

Sorry, just voicing out that most triathlon races are going up exponentially this year and that bugs me.

anyone feel the same way? or can explain the expensiveness?

Yeah… $139 for a Sprint is pretty steep. There is a spot for a discount code— does anyone have one?

When I’m car shopping and I see cars that are out of my price range I don’t buy them and instead purchase another car.

I’ve schedule two olympic course this year and they’re both around $150. So yeah $167 looks normal.

$225 for NYC Olympic, $50 more than a 1/2 Irondistance I did last fall. Location, Location, Location.

i would agree, i just signed up for Lavaman here on the Big Island and it was 225 w/ an extra after party ticket. so yah, this is what you train for so why not splurge!

I just noticed that the Camp Pendleton olympic race was gone yesterday! I did the sprint last year… it’s a really good race.

It’s also a cheap race… just $60. The finish chute is on a hovercraft… totally worth every penny hah.

You paid for it, so obviously it’s not too expensive.

Shoot for that price you could do the 5430 1/2 IM in Boulder… but hey it’s Malibu!

Well, it depends. For us, locals, is cheaper to just bite the bullet than having to travel somewhere else. Besides, it’s Malibu :slight_smile:
A good alternative for So Californians is the Breath of life triathlon in Ventura, CA. $80 for the sprint and $90 for the olympic. The only con is no J-Lo.

It’s a famous venue and you get to race with a bunch of famous movie star fellows and gals. Big bucks man.

I know, I was just making a point that race has a high what I call a high “atmosphere charge”. I am sure it’s a great race with a bunch of movie stars. blah blah blah… but if you want to race an oly side by side with some tri stars there are still a few 5430 oly slots open for only $110 :slight_smile:

Well, you also get to race alongside Potts and Macca at Malibu. So you got that going for you
