Go to the PVC section of Home Depot or Lowes and buy a couple of rods that will fit your clamp on the CT (its the smaller diameter stuff). Buy one 90 degree connector. Buy another connector that let’s you insert the vertical rod plus 4 openings that go out horizontally for feet. Cut about 4 lengths about 6 inches or more for feet/legs. Cut another short length and stick it in the 90 degree connector and then connect to the vertical rod. Total time if you have a PVC cutter is about 4 minutes. I have never even bothered to glue mine together because the connections were all pretty tight. Its not pretty or elaborate but very functional. Best.
**Handlebar Controller **Mount
for Aerobars
(replacement)
(Heavy Duty Aluminum Mount easily added and removed with an Allen wrench. Replaces original standard Handlebar Controller mount) Part Number R986-249-00 Factory Direct $23.95 Quantity :
I just purchased a cheap set of clip on’s for my road bike that I have setup for the CT.
This part makes everything nice and clean!!
No pic…but I made a stand that mounted to a workbench next to where my bike sits. I got a 3/4" threaded flange and screwed it to the workbench, and made an L-shaped mount for the unit out of 3/4" threaded PVC pipe. If you can picture it…the pipe rises 4-5" up from the benchtop, then makes a 90* turn to a 12" piece on which the unit is mounted. It swivels around so I can pull it out where I can reach it, and then turn it back out of the way when finished. It also just unscrews so I can put it away when summer comes.
ohhhhhh… this I like. Since my bike is in a conspicuous place, it has to look somewhat decent. Do you need a special size clamp along with the stand? Thanks.
I’m late to comment on your new nom-de-plume. THe squiggle I understand to be called “tilde”, and when I see M~ I think it is like a vanity plate for someone named “Matilda”.
We can’t make you “stick” with mucus? ( ugh…yep I had to…)
JAKE
You traded it?! you traded the Bluesmobile for this?!
ELWOOD
No … for a microphone.
I’d second the mic stand for cost. I used an old wrought lamp post someone left in our basement until I get ambitious and built myself a version of the Racermate platform:
The actual platform took me a while, because I used a router for the first time in nearly 20 years; however, the controller stand took me about 10 minutes. I just used copper pipe and Gorilla glue. PVC is also super easy. I made myself some barriers for cyclocross out of PVC.
For a controller stand, I’d either choose premade or go arts and crafts…
I use a spare cymbal stand from my drum set. You can get one under $20. Take a 3-4 inch piece of pvc pipe or old handle bar and put in the clamps that would hold the cymbal. Turn 90 degrees so it is parallel to the floor. Makes a perfect clamp!
2 x 18" 3/4 inch black steel tubing + 1 3/4" coupler to join the 2 sections
3/4" 90 degree black steel elbow
3/4" black steel flange
5" black steel tube
Total + Tax = $12.61
No tools necessary and total assembly time was about 60 seconds.
I used 2x18" sections so that I could change the height down the road if necessary. 1 x 36" section will save you a buck.
I also didn’t like Computrainer’s instructions to cut the pipe and use a stubby 1" section for the handlebar mount. I used a 5" section of pipe. 3" probably would have been sufficient.
Oh, one major issue you’ll have to address is that the instructions assume you’re going to screw it down to your platform (which I didn’t build). I just happened to have 2 x 10lb weights that i wasn’t using and they fit perfectly around the 3/4" tubing. So you’ll have to figure out some way to make sure it doesn’t tip over.
I made a stand a few yrs ago out of pvc & prepared a doc with detailed instructions, parts & picutres. Nothing is attached to the bike including the cadence sensor. Barb
