Major Ankle Problem... Five Weeks

Hate to put a damper on the usual jovial nature of the forum but I am seeking some advice on a nagging injury. Five weeks ago, I came down with some ankle pain after a long training weekend. Three doctors have diagnosed the pain as Achilles Tendonitis and consequently, I took two full weeks off. I have since been able to run without pain but cannot get back on my bike. I have essentially been off the bike for five weeks without any progress (3 hours total in five weeks)~ pain returns in my achilles after twenty minutes on the trainer. Treatment to date includes rest, ice/ heat, stretching, ultrasound/ steroid treatments… My concern is IM CDA on the 25th of June.

Has anyone experienced the same problem? If so, what worked? Would ankle wraps/ tape help the problem?

Appreciate the advice…- AR

did you ever consider seeing a physician?

My first ART treatments were to treat achilles tendonitis. I’d be willing to bet that you’ve got a muscle spasm behind your knee on the affected side, which ART would help work loose. That would free up the constant pressure that your contracting muscle is likely putting on your achilles tendon (“referred” pain).

My similar pain was nagging all summer before IMC in '93, and I didn’t get it fixed with my ART guy until early '94. But when I finally started treatments it was totally gone in three weeks.

I’d visit http://www.activereleasetechnique.com/art.html to read up and find someone to treat it asap.

Good luck!

Been to three Drs… Basically, all three said, “rest.” One of the Drs had me lower my saddle slightly but that did not result in any improvements.

Is your seat too high? Is the run technique the real culprit? You might want to have someone look at those.
