Magnum PI and triathlon

Switched on the TV over lunch and that old Magnum PI episode with the triathlon was on. It was swim-run-bike and Tom Selleck was riding a bike that looked too small (he’s 6’5") but otherwise was fun to watch. Selleck drops out of the bike portion to solve a crime and Higgins, in his usual British reserve understates to Magnum, “of course you know that you won’t win the race now”.

Damn, I loved that show.

I wonder if my TIVO wish list will pick that up… Now that would be impressive!

That show was great to watch, if for nothing else to check out the various locations on Oahu where they were filming and for, of course, the babes. Also enjoyed the tie-in to the Navy and SEALs (being a retired squid myself). And that show does have one of the best all-time final episodes where – guess what – the hero dies!!!

One of my favorites growing up. What network is still running it? It used to be on some channel we got on cable during the morning here and watched a few times when I was sick but haven’t been home to look for it in a long time.

He was always kayaking also. A fit PI is always superior to a fat PI.

That was the end of season seven. After Tom Selleck signed on for season eight they resurrected him.

I think it is the Hallmark Channel. The first and second season are on DVD now. The rest are supose to be coming out soon.

In any case, there’s a competitor who did the Ironman Revisited race dressed in a Detroit cap and a Magnum shirt.

I thought Magnum always wore a NY cap?

Rookie!

That was the first triathlon I ever saw. It also gave me some bogus information - in that episode, it’s swim, run, and then bike - I thought that was the correct format for years.

I believe it’s on season 2 and yes, it’s on dvd.

The greatest show i watched growing up. I’m sure my dad used to purposely dress like him (until when recently I reminded him that Tom Selleck was a massive gay icon apparently - who else would dare tuck a hawaiian shirt into their trousers…).

As I remember it Magnum used to mainly wear a Detroit cap but occasionally wore a yankees cap as well. Confusing ? Not as confusing as to how he did the ironman in a baseball cap, dodgy tennis shorts and a grey vest. Nutrition ? Not that i could see…
