What is the best way to set up a computer with a Hed 3C. I am having trouble because the Hed blades are so far in from the fork. Pictures would be great.
Thanks
No pictures but what I did, not the most aero, was super glue a bar end plug (plastic) to the blade and then super glue one of the Radio Shack super magnets to that. It gets the magnet close enough to the sensor and it works.
ironrod-I did this too then I stepped back and said come on… there has to be a better way. One of the most areo wheels on the market and I had 2 lbs of glue and spacers under a heavy magnet. Thanks though
I just glued the flat piece of magnet onto the wheel at the right point and then put some tape over it. You should be able to get the sensor close enough to the magnet at some point along the fork. If not I would just put a spacer under the magnet to get it close enough to the sensor. Good Luck.

I agree. There has to be a better way. Most of the time I don’t race with a bike computer now. I just set my watch to beep every 15’ so I know when to eat/drink. Without the magnet/computer, I think I save a 1/2 watt per hour ![]()

Don’t have the bike and wheels but the bike computer I had was a sigma sport: http://www.sigmasport.com/us/produkte/bikecomputer/
.
if you don’t have a lot of $ invested in your computer, pitch it (or put it on another bike) and go buy one with a rear wheel pick-up. even with a hed3 on the back the chainstay is usually close enough to the wheel that it’s not an issue back there.
i have a wireless cateye and it’s even better because it allows you to adjust the sensor arm closer or further from the wheel without having to move the whole sensor unit.
I have the rear mount Cateye Astrale 8, and I just rotate my sensor in and out when I switch between my road and TT wheels (HED3).
I mounted my magnet with epoxy near the rim-blade interface. The magnet is a rare earth (super strong and picks up from a long way away). Works like a charm. In fact I’ve mounted 3 of them on my 3 sets of HED3’s the same way.
What about a rear for an ergomo? (on H3)

If you are using epoxy, make sure you use vinyl gloves. Avoid all direct contact with epoxy. Skin contact with epoxy can lead to allergeric reaction.
no pics I’m afraid but I just bought a pack of the little round magnets from radio shack and used one of those. stick two inches of black electrical tape to the blade then stick the magnet to that with a blob of shoe goo. Still not that aero (and my sensor leans a long way in too which doesn’t help) but it looks extremely neat and you can peel the tape off very easily if you want to remove the magnet / sell the wheels.
mcmastercarr.com rare earth magnet as thin and small as possible, also super glue. glue it inside the valve stem area. The magnets are so strong they will activate the eddy current even if they are tiny!
