Macca's Helmet Choice in Kona

not specifically a reply to you, but maybe Macca also realised that a Rudy Syton ain’t much of an aero helmet anyway so why take the ventilation penalty for nothing? If he could have used a Bell, Spiuk, Met, Uvex or a Giro, would his choice have changed? Who knows…

Again:

  1. He rode in the pack
  2. He refused to take a pull, Faris did all the work
  3. He had no intention of leaving the pack

Look at the watts … Al Sultan 283 Average, Luke Bell (same pack behind Faris) about 270 Watts. (http://www.2peak.com/tools/hawaii3.php) I hope that Hawaii continues to give the real heroes of the game - those who do an “individual time trial” - the deserved victory.

Everything you said was right on except for point #2. You obviously don’t know Faris’ racing tactics very well. Macca did not refuse to pull. Macca is all in favor of working together to catch the lead riders. It is Faris who doesn’t likes to lead. As soon as he is passed, Faris jumps out back into the lead. Luke Bell can attest to that also. Faris is a tough guy and I respect him immensely. But to say that Macca or anyone else refused to take a pull is inaccurate.

the draft zone size is the big issue for me. Isn’t 7 meters legal…but still provides some benefit?

last year rule was 10m for the pro in hawaii… but the rule is 10m from front wheel of the leader to the front wheel of the bike folowing… so in reality, as a bike mesure about 2m, you can ride 8m behing the back wheel of the guy ahead of you. i dont see the point if making the rules this way as you always have to substrace 2m to get the distance allowed between bike.

it should be 10m at least in between bikes…
