Macca vs Normann at IM Germany?!

Looks like I might have to make that trip…just for the after-party ; )

In a recent interview Macca on the Competitors he stated that even if he was extended an invitation he probably would not go and that since he is not going to change his focus for the Olympics that Kona IS everything. I would be surprised to see him race knowing that it’s tough to be skinny and peak 2x in one season at that level and distance. He has the formula for Kona and he knows it took Norman to PR in all three to beat him so I doubt he will change his formula for Denk.

Now, that being said, we all know how ones ego can drive us and Macca certainly isn’t short on ego.

I think he still has two years with Roth, and they pay big money. He will not be in Frankfurt.

I thought this was his last year with IMOz and Roth, but I could be wrong. I also listened to the interview and I agree, he’ll probably pass. That’ll work out better for me because I’m already planning on being at Lulu’s on the 14th of October : )

Here is my take. Even if Macca does show up, he kills himself to win Frankfurt, but wins. As we all know it takes a lot more to recover from a hard run than a moderate run. Norman recovers faster from Frankfurt and dusts Macca at Kona where it really counts. Have fun at Lulus. I hope you provide a live webcam feed…you could even get Kevin McKinnon to make sure its on the Ironmanlive post race coverage!

Lucky. I hope he takes a pass and he is in top form come October. Although, Denk knows it would be a huge draw and might come up with a very large payday that might be too much to walk away from…

From that interview it sounded like he was dropping an iron race next season (forget which one) and that Kona was his only focus… he didn’t care about winning before Kona. (Been over a week since I listened if anyone can confirm that). You can get “the competitors” podcast for free off itunes it’s an awesome show if you’ve never heard it.

I wouldn’t put it past macca to race norman and sandbag it to let Norman think he could easily beat him then surprise Norman at kona. In the interview he talks about the mind games he likes to play it’s interesting.

As I recall, he said he was not doing Australia next year.

Macca will be at his home course in Roth.

Maybe you’re right. I thought there were two more years but I don’t find any info on this, so maybe I’m mistaken.
But I’m fairly sure they will extend it and he will go back to Roth…maybe the smack talk post race was a way to get Frankfurt in the game and get Roth to cough up some more $$.
