Macca and Lieto to race at our local mudhole

LOL- just got an e-mail today announcing that Macca and Chris Lieto will be racing the Morgan Hill Sprint Triathlon. Let’s hope we have enough water in Uvas reservoir to actually be able to swim. It might be a mudwrestle/bike/run.

That is going to be a sweet race. I was out there last week and there is a ton of water in Uvas now.

I’ve been dying for a topic like this…
I have been kind of frustrated that lots of people think that the only distances worth racing are the 70.3 or 140.6… for that matter there are quite a few people who i’ve heard saying only the full distance is worth it… so for me it is great to see pro’s out racing shorter courses…
Macca just won the Lavaman and if I recall there were something like 13 pros at that race. You know what’s funny is that most of the pros didn’t start out doing full IM races. I never could understand where people came up with the idea of short races not being fun/competetive/worth it…

The Morgan Hill Sprint Tri (formerly Uvas Tri) is a great race. It will definitely be cool to see these guys out there. It’s sort of like Babe Ruth showing up to the neighborhood sand lot game.

Glad to hear that the reservoir is filling up. The last time I rode by it was a few weeks ago, and the water level was definitely higher than it was in Dec/Jan, but still nowhere near capacity. IIRC, this race has been cancelled at least once in prior years due to low water levels, so hopefully that won’t be the case this year.

I think it’s funny how nobody wanted to talk about my earlier post!

That’s a fun course! Cool they will be there racing.

It’s OT, that’s why.

Apparently, C. Lieto beat Macca. Can’t find official results yet. Can anyone confirm?

I wouldn’t mind seeing some results either…I read that it went 1. Macca, 2. Lieto, 3. Lavelle , Lieto led off the bike but couldn’t hang with Macca on the run.

lieto tweeted that he got inched out on the run by macca…so yea macca then lieto
.

It was Macca by a hair. I did the race and saw them pass me with about a half mile to go. The results are posted here:

(I guess I need to start another thread with what a piece of crap athleteslounge is. Yea, let’s write this POS in flash and not let you sort by swim, bike or run. Flash is even worse in the wrong hands than javascript. Didn’t they even look at the results once before posting? I mean, you choose “age group” and it starts off on page 6 of 7, wtf is up with that?)

Anyway, when those guys passed me it didn’t appear that either was working very hard. I would say they they made a conscience decision to just go out there and have a good time. Both of their run times were 28:17 which is 5:38 pace. That’s dawdling for both of them. OK, maybe not dawdling, but let’s say comfortably hard.

One of the coolest things about doing a race with those guys in the field is you get a true sense of where you stand versus a pro, even if they were dawdling. Also, at the awards ceremony, I think both mentioned that they had both done a crazy hard day the day before so I think the race was a recovery effort. Unbelievable.

 Agreed. Try this: http://pmevents.com/results/event/2713/results.php

When I saw them (Macca, Lieto) on the run they were side by side and looked like they were out for a jog:)
