Macca (2)

What happened to Macca in New Orleans? While second place is nothing to be ashamed of, that seemed to have been an uncharacteristically slow run for him. Something must have happened for him to run that “slowly”.

He got a beat down by Brent which is great.

he lost a shoe lace and gave up?

=)

People mentioned yesterday that he had blood on his face throughout the race. Not sure what really happened, but if was losing blood that may be why he lost the race. The doctor says I wouldn’t have as many nosebleeds if I just kept my finger out of there.

Um, he didn’t have that much blood on himself. Just a bizarre smear across one side of his face.

He didn’t look very concerned about the race yesterday. The guy who won was really intense…looked like he was really gunning for the victory. I didn’t keep up with the whole race but Macca wasn’t in 1st for very long, if at all.

Three weekends in a row of racing for Macca…2nd…1st…2nd…I would take that any day!

I doubt if he lost a lace. More than likely his lace broke! That happens sometimes, doesn’t it?

Ha, no kidding. It’s like training for him.

I saw him at bike checkout and he said he didn’t expect the course to be so hard. But he might have been trying to make me feel better about losing it on the course. He also said it was good training for China.

The local paper (The Times Picayune) quoted Macca on his swimming-sustained injury:

McCormack, who finished second overall, didn’t feel the same smooth sailing. he emerged from the lake bloodied and in ninth place. “I had a great start,” McCormack said sarcastically. "I lost my goggles; I seemed to be going backwards in the swim; I cut my hand early (on a rock on a bend in the course), and when I got out, I had blood all over me.

“I’m thinking, geez, I’m bleeding all over - but it cleared up pretty good…(The goggles) - they were gone. I got clocked pretty good about 100 meters out, and then they filled with water - and I just ripped them off and said, now I’m better. I’m used to that from Australia. We siwm a lot without goggles.”

me too…but i am not talking about his placing…he ran 1:21 minutes…which is 7 minutes slower than what he has done this year and 11 minutes slower than what matty reed did (albeit on a different course)…my point is that folks of his caliber usually don’t run 6-8 minutes slower in a half ironman from one to the next unless something happened
.

2 pros ran about what they usually run or are certainly capable of running. Brent, who I am sure is better than 1:17, and Tim, who ran 1:15 something.

It was a deceivingly tough day. Really windy, very humid and quite warm. I saw both of Luc’s rear bottles bounce out about 5 miles into the bike, and it was at least 15 miles before the first aid station. The bike and run aid stations were widely spaced, and I think that they eventually ran out of gatorade for the later finishers. The run aid stations were 1.5 or so miles apart. With the point to point run we also fought a stiff headwind for the last 6 miles. So, it’s possible to get a few minutes out of those issues. I didn’t hear of too many folks who particularly enjoyed the run. I had a good run going until about mile 8 or so, and that seemed to be the case for a lot of other racers.

I understand…I should not have read through the thread so fast. Agreed, that seems a bit slow for Macca and some of the others. If I were Macca, I would be fatigued from all the training, racing and traveling by now…

There was one point early in the race that had at least 20 bottles on the ground. All kinds, aero frame bottles, at least 2 profile aerobar bottles, which I have never seen pop off before and a random assortment of regular bottles.
