Never noticed this setting under Security, but seems simple enough. Are their any disadvantages to using the encryption? Not like my home PC is some NSA treasure trove of info, but heck why not use it? Does it hog resources or slow the system down at all?

When I installed Snow Leopard early last year, I remember looking into this, and finding out that most folks didn’t recommend… If I recall correctly, that was primarily due to resource-hog issues… Try searching for info on it at the Apple Discussion boards - that’s where I remember getting the best info.
But my experience researching it was all a while ago, so maybe it’s much improved with Lion.
