Mac Leopard question

A friend is purchasing a new macbook, which ships with Leopard OS. The macbook pro I purchased last year came with Tiger, and I was considering switching over to Leopard. Is it possible to install Leopard on my machine from the disc that accompanies her new computer, or are they specific to the unit they ship with? I’ve heard you can install Leopard on up to 3 different macs, but haven’t confirmed that to be true of the version that ships with the unit.

no I do not think that it will not be possible. Your friend will get a boot/restore disc that will reinstall leopard on their computer, but you cannot use that disc for an install on a different computer…

Generally with OSX you can install it on as many macs as you want, but they ask you to buy a new license after (I thought 5) installs…

I was looking into this about a year ago to see if I got a new MB if I could install Leopard on my Imac. This is where I may be mistaken, maybe my issue was with the imac/MB incompatibility, but I thought that the boot disc was tied to the mac it was shipped with…

Just spoke with tech support who says yes and no, depending.

If you buy two identical machines (save for the OS) you can license the new OS to three different machines, provided they are identical machines with identical configurations. I’m out of luck.

(If anyone feels like loaning a guy their Leopard OS disk for the base model macbook pro, I make damn fine gingerbread cookies
