If finishers of an Ironman event get an M-dot tattoo…when I finish my 70.3 race should I get an N-dot tattoo?
(then, if I do a 140.6 I can have the last line added, changing the N to an M)
First!
Ok…here is what a “buddy” did he got the IM tat but only filled in with red half way.
Doesn’t have the same ring to it. If you want to get a tat I’d just wait till you do the full, then it will be more special. All my friends want me to get a tattoo after my IM, but I’m not so sure.
You either did it or you didn’t.
You can either wear it proudly or you can’t.
I tried to give my wife the ring without the diamond.
Didn’t work.
Just had this discussion at work the other day. Young lady wants to get one when she does a full, she’s already done the half. She asked my opinion…I friggin’ hate tattoos of all kinds, except one type. If you served in any branch of the military, you have earned the right of a tattoo, that’s it, end of story, no if ands or buts, peace time or wartime, doesn’t matter.
My grandfather was on a ship in the Pacific during WWII, and he had his ships name on his arm. My uncle was in the Army in Vietnam, he had his unit on his arm. Anything else is bullshit.
i would wait till i do 140.6
.
Anything else is bullshit.
So then it’s military and pornstars only
BTW…if you are military and your tat is color then it was meant for porn.
Only girls get color.

Thanks for clearing that up.
I think the Aryan Brotherhood might disagree.

How do you know you’ll even finish the Full? If something is easy enough that you think you’ll do it anyway, it is not worth getting a tattoo over.
Only 14 of the 27 guys I went through Marine Scout Sniper School actually graduated. If you pass that, then you deserve a tattoo.
Besides, the tattoo that an Ironman inks into your psyche is way cooler than a tattoo on your skin. Only other Ironmen know what it means anyway, and every time they see it they think, big deal, I’ve done one too. So did that that fat old guy, no disrespect intended to fat old people, but it lessens the accomplishment. That being said, if you think that you need one to remember your accomplishment, go ahead! Just know that many of us laugh on the inside.
came up with this “idea” towards the end of my swim-run brick, yesterday (I get all sort of shits/ideas (many of which happen to be shit ideas!) bubbling through my brain during a 90" run in the middle of the day…).
while the Lance-MickeyD pic is funny, from looking through LAVA, and such there appears to be plenty of pros (esp in Europe) already renting space on their bods for “temp tattoos” to use themselves for advertrising. (e.g., pic of Chrissy W. w/ TYR patches on both arms)
you guys make me laugh. Thanks.

I see this line of “logic” all the time. Can you please explain in a reasonable manner how another person doing something “lessens” what you do?
I’d say do whatever you want, but think about it for a bit first (like months).
I’d be curious to know the stats on how many people have tattoos that they regret.

judging from some of the tats I’ve seen in the ER (and on COPS), I’ll bet it’s a HIGH percentage!
It’s a really bad idea, but if you must…

I outlined mine signifying that I was training, I had already done halfs, then last fall completed Canada but still have not filled it in. Yeah some folks probably thought I had already and if they asked I would tell them the truth. Thinking about getting the maple leaf outline outside the M-dot and filling the dot with blue and the M with red and white ( I am an American).
Yes that made it pretty much a one way street didn’t it, Cowboy up.
Anything else is bullshit.
FYI your opinion sucks.
Seems early for the mDot tattoo thread, but man the tattoo hate is out strong this type around do I guess I’ll dive in.
The only difference between people with tattoos and those without is people with tattoos don’t care if you have them or not. To each his own; sports, cars, family, sex, religion, and body modifications.
People’s opinions on tattoos are worthless, unless it is of their own.

The initial statement that I made clearly identifies how it “lessens” the accomplishment, but I will give another circumstance that clearly explains this as well. In the case of the GRE for entrance to many masters and doctoral programs throughout the country uses this as a way to rank the testers. For instance, if you take the test and score well on the quantitative and verbal sections of the test, you could still be ranked in a low percentile of testers based on how they did. In the same case, if a ton of stupid people take the test and you do OK, you could be in the 99th percentile. It doesn’t mean you are a super genius, it just means that you did better than a bunch of dumb people.
If this doesn’t make sense, I apologize, but I feel that it is a good example. If not, I could attempt to use a couple of unrealistic examples that could exaggerate this point even further.
Thanks for the feedback, and no offense to “dumb” people as well.
I guess tattoos are like opinions. he he
