Hey all, I was thinking of doing this triathlon, just wondering if there are any ST’ers out there that have done it before and what you thought of the course and the race overall. I have done other setup events before but not this one.
I raced the sprint last year, which takes place on the same course as the olympic. If the course remains the same for this year:
Swim is in a small-ish reservoir which had a rough and shallow (read: random underwater rocks) swim exit.
Bike is rolling, with 1 really nasty short hill a mile or so from transition.
Run is relatively flat, with 95 percent on non-paved surface around the race site.
The race site is nestled at the base of the SNP mountains so the scenery is great!
Oh, and top 3 m/f overall got a hand-engraved wine glass and a bottle of wine along with a do it yourself pasta package. One of the better awards I’ve received!

I did the Sprint last year as well and I’d say Andy’s comments are accurate. I really liked Luray as a nice small town destination to get away from the city for a weekend, and I’ll be doing both the Olympic and the Sprint races this year.
If you are interested, I mapped out the bike course, which is pretty hilly.
