I’ve heard of people going to town on the lunaracer 1.0, at least those of us who get our achilles tendons torn to bits. I’m about to take the shears to the back of the shoe- any tips? Is it better to duct tape over removed heel tab area, or would stitching some soft fabric like felt be better?
Get the 2.0’s…seriously. Nike fixed the issue. I was bloodied wearing the 1.0’s when I paced a half mary… I thought I loved those shoes until I switched to the 2.0.
Yeah I got a nasty heel blister from them at Mooseman last year. I can’t buy new shoes right now so I guess I’m going with a protective band-aid this year!
I put a folded up paper towel between the shoe and the binder clip to keep the metal clip from cutting into the soft sockliner of the shoe. But, I’m not sure that’s completely necessary.
I left the clips on for a few days when I first got my shoes (had read about others having issues with the high heel counter) before even trying them. Then, I put the clips on between uses for a couple of weeks (although I never did have an issue). It softens up the top of the heel counter pretty nicely.
I’ve since moved onto the second version of the Lunaracers, and didn’t bother. They have a small “dip” at the top of the heel counter like most shoes.
