Lucero sizing

Can anybody help with sizing on a Lucero? There is a large frame going for a good price on eBay but unfortunately QR aren’t a big brand in the UK and I haven’t been able to find an LBS that has any large frames in stock for me to try out.

I’m 6’1", 33-34" inside leg, ride with a seat height of ~77cm, have a normal to slightly long torso and don’t ride super-aggressively - need a drop of about 13-14cm at a seat angle of 77 degrees or so. I doubt I will ever want to get lower than this. My concern is whether I could get this drop on the Large easily enough - the standover height and head tube length (15cm) seem quite high.

Appreciate that this isn’t the most scientific way to go about sizing a bike, but in the absence of a local QR dealer to help my plan would be to build up the drivetrain on the frame and then go to my LBS (who don’t stock QR) to buy the stem and bars and get fitted. What I don’t want is to find that I’m having to put on a steeply angled stem to get a big enough drop.

Have you considered getting out the tape measure and comparing your setup to the diagrams on QR’s site? It’s worth your time to make sure you aren’t going to end up with a frame that makes you less aero or less comfortable.

I’m 5’6" and on a the Lucero small with saddle height 69cm, nose of saddle to bar clamp 50 cm. My seat to pad drop is just under 11 cm.

My buddy is 5’10" and is on the medium. I would say that the large is OK for a guy your height, although since you saddle height is only 8 cm heigher than mine, you might be OK getting away with a medium and longer stem and this way you have the option of a bigger drop.

If you don’t ride super steep however, keep in mind that the Lucero, does not offer a “slacker” seat post option, like other vendors such as Kuota, Kestrel, Cervelo etc etc. For this reason I have actually recently sold my Lucero and I hope to be on my Kuota Kalibur by this weekend.

As it happens the other frame I was looking at is a large Kuota K-Factor. Could get it a bit cheaper, but the geometry seemed pretty similar to the Lucero - is the slacker option with the Kuota simply that you can put a seatpost with a bit of setback on it?

Thanks for the advice - sounds like I’m in the right kind of ballpark for the Large, just wanted some reassurance that I wasn’t way off with my calcs. Reading other threads on QR it sounds as though the top tube can come up short and as I don’t like to be cramped I might struggle on a Medium or end up with some kind of super-long stem.

Thanks

Simon

Actually Dev’s not quite right on QR not offering a slacker seat tube angle.
Dev, you may have had trouble with the small frame but with my size L seduza (same mold as the Lucero), I’m riding at around 78* effective STA with a Fizik Arione all the way forward on the rails. The saddle tip is just at the centre of the BB.
It could easily and comfortably go back a few cm to get you around 75-76*
By the way, I’m 6’2 with a 34ish inseam, I think my seats at around 79cm (I have it written down somewhere) and I ride with about 17cm of drop. I’m riding Hed aerobars which are pretty low profile, that’s another thing you may want to consider. My sense is you’d be OK with a large, plus you won’t have any ugly spacers for us to point out once you build it!
Good luck!
Ian

Ian, thanks for the clarification on the large. Yes, my experience is based exclusively on the small. With my Selle Italia Aspide or with the Profile TriStyke, I cannot get the nose behind the BB at all. Clearly with the large, this is not an issue.

For the Kuota bikes a steep standard post with the Kalibur and K Factor (76) or UCI legal (74) options are offered.

im about 6’2" i have a large lucero, shorter legs (31 inseam) with a longer torso, wish i would have gone medium on the frame personally still get a pretty good amount of drop but really feel the med would have a better fit, oh well… i also have the Hed onpiece with all the spacers out FWIW…

On an L with a -17deg stem and low stack top cap (8-10mm) and no spacers you will have 150mm drop to the bars. This means you can choose aerobars with a pad stack of 10-20mm to get your desired drop. Vision, Hed, modified profile and others I can’t think of now would work for you.
