Any idea what the current water temperature is ?

arno, i dont have a temp, but was there 3 weekends ago and it was WARM, like almost too warm in a wetsuit for 2 loops.
I would call High Peaks, they will know for sure.

I was there on the 1st and 2nd and the sign near the lifeguard station said 63.
But… with the lake being so small that can fluctuate very quickly depending on the weather.
High Peaks told me it was 75F!

75? Damn, that’s getting a little warm for me. Around 70-71 would be perfect in my mind. Entirely possible that some rain will cool it down before race day. Of course, I guess it’s equally possible that a heat wave will warm it up 5 degrees.

I swam there this past Saturday…its perfect IMO.
Guys, don’t underestimate the dehydration that comes from an hour long swim in a long sleeve wetsuit in 75 degree water…fastest way to add 20 min to your finish time, or get a DNF. I’d bring both long and short sleeve. I have opted to give away 1-2 min in the swim 5 of the past 7 years and swim with short sleeve for this reason. That Lake is normally borderline wetsuit by the third week of July, but you will never see IMNA have a no wetsuit swim, even if the Lake is 80. Personally, I wish it was “no wetsuit”. I’m not the strongest swimmer, but a point comes where the rules should be followed…plus athletes are much more civil with one another when they see “real bodies” next to them…not just black rubber. It is like the difference between how we act with one another on a sidewalk (civil) vs when in cars (not civil). Something about adding a layer of “barrier” that makes us less human to one another.
Having said that, a few cold nites and the temps can easily drop back to 70.

I don’t know Dev- there was a Canadian Invasion when I was there. Some Kayak race. I figure that chilled the water if anything ; )
See you there.
The water temp was 77 last year. Im pretty sure I swallowed enough water to make up for any sweating due to the hot temps. Its pretty much impossible not to.
My thoughts exactly

Since when did you know what you are talking about?
Where you staying? I am going to be right on Main St. with Estee.
I think I owe you breakfast if I am not mistaken.
You can guarantee that the RD will find cold water somewhere…
Any more updates?
We swam today, not as warm as it had been with the rain yesterday and last night. We also had a huge downpour this evening. Temps should drop with all the rain and with the cooler night temps in the next few days. FYI The Kayak bouys are out!
Who cares? It’s 47 degrees last time I checked with winds of 50 mph. or was it 71 degrees wih zero winds. You cannot control it and whatever answer you get how on earth will it matter to your race? I have done IMLP 3x and amd doing it this year and could give 2 s**ts about the temp. Focus on what really matters in the race, your attitude.
For those wondering about Lake temps, the long range forecast calls for daily highs in the mid 70’s and lows in the high 40’s to mid 50’s. If this keeps up you should not get dehydrated in a long sleeve wetsuit:

Actually, it can matter to care. I did a sprint tri last night in a new, very tight (as in no water comes in) full length suit and got really hot! If the water was like LP two years ago I wouldn’t want to use a full and would check out my old sleeveless a few times before next weekend (which will be my 6th IMLP) to see if that is an option.
I’m still bringing both and on Friday afternoon when I get into town, I’ll do customary 2K swim. I’ll use the sleeveless for the Friday swim and if I am totally cold and if air temps Sunday morning are predicted to be cold too, I’ll use the long sleeve on race day. If I am OK for 2K in sleeveless without getting cold, that is what I will use on race day.
This is why I would consider a Desoto T1 as my next wetsuit (in x years)… to have both options with “one” wetsuit…
