Posted this late under hurt knee thread but thought a new thread was in order. Long story short so you dont have to read the other thread…did a Du 3 weeks ago, significant posterior right knee pain the next day that I still have today. Diagnosed as Poplitius tendonditis. It is usually a run injury but bike seat height came up as possible issue. So my question is…does my bike seat look high?
No. But if you suspect it’s a bike fit issue you’re best bet is to get a professional fit. You can’t get a bike fit on slowtwitch.
Doesn’t that injury typically come from downhill running? Did the du have a lot of downhill running? Are they sure that’s what the injury is? I had a similar problem a few years ago they thought was popliteus tendonitis and it turned out to be a torn semimenbranosus tendon. Both have similar symptoms with the pain typically occurring when you move your leg to the side (like crossing your legs, for example).
I had a prof fit in dec/jan. It took 2 visits and thats what we came up with.
When I saw my Ortho sports doc a few days ago he worked it up…poked, proded and pulled. The calf and hamstring tendons felt fine. When he dug into the popliteus (which was very hard for him to find), I about jumped to the roof. So…Im pretty sure thats it.
If I get a few more No’s on the bike seat high question I can get that out of my head. Did you have a hard time seeing the video?
The video was fine and I didn’t see anything with your saddle height that looked out of range. If you had a bike fit I’m sure it’s fine. Your doc is probably just searching for answers. They questioned my saddle height too when I had my injury but I’d had a bike fit too so I figured the injury most likely came from running.
Good luck with your recovery.
Thanks. It hurt riding yesterday so I was actually hopefull the seat looked high so I had a reason.
Im sure it was run related as well.

I’m not a bike fit pro but you don’t look too high, if anything I would say your feet are a little too in front of your sitting position, especially on tri bars. You look a little stretched out rather than on top of the pedal stroke. Might just be the camera angle though. If all the rotation is in front of you then you might be having to pull back too much. Just a thought.
I had a bike fit a couple of weeks ago. It was the best $300 I spent for speed improvement. My wife fit caused a 15% increase in speed (but she did have a pretty bad position before)
Well worth the money.
Like I said, I had a prof fit in dec/jan.
However, I always felt a bit stretched. It was a compromise during the fit because the frame is too big for me.Im too cheap to go buy another bike. I have wanted to move the seat forward a bit more but than I would have to adjust a bunch of other stuff and Im just not a bike guy. I guess I could go in for another fit with my specific issue. Hmmmmmmmm!
You’re not cheap, you’re cheap and injured. There is a difference
I think you need to be up and forward. Looks like you are stretching your hams out riding like that. You will also see huge run benefits by being more refreshed off the bike too. That was the biggest thing I found. I ran 8 seconds off my PB 10k time last month. My PB 10k was set at the end of last year in a straight 10k road race. I only ran 8 seconds shy of it straight off the bike at the end of a tri last week. My legs felt great as opposed to like lead. I was previously in a similar position to you are now.
I don’t think there is a cheap way to solve your problem and another bike fit on the same bike is prob not going to cut the mustard.
Hope you get it sorted.
LOL, the W would kill me if I bought a new bike this year. I will let this thing heal up, miss a Tri next weekend( be sad) and maybe another 2 weeks after that (be very sad) and work with what I have. Thanks for the input.
Just a thought, my bike fit guy was happy to make adjustments based on what he had done and the results I had. He did not charge me for this.
You could take it back and say you had some issues and see what he recommends. Most bike fits aren’t 100% final and techs know a little tweaking is part of that initial fee.
Just a thought …
