I have a really tight lower back on my right hand side (to go with my tight ITB’s and hamstrings) and am looking for a stretch to help me address this issue. I have all the yoga based stretches for the other parts of the body down pat, but can’t seem to isolate the muscle in my back.
I have no idea what the muscle is called, but it is that area immediately next to the spine (if you reach around and feel you will know exactly which one) and below the rib cage.
Thanks all.
P.S. Go Lukey!! (He used to work at my fave bike store in Melbourne Australia called SBR before he moved to San Diego), so I just thought I would give him a big wrap for his Eagleman efforts. What odds would you get on a Chris McCormack/Luke Bell double at Kona in the next few years???
I have the same problem and stretch all the time. There are a bunch of stretchs which I can even start to describe. best money I spent recently was getting a copy of Stretching by Bob Anderson (published by Shelter). The lower back, glutes and hip stretches as described work amazingly well.
Now that the subject is out in the open I feel comfortable talking about it. Try a yoga class (see current post). It sure isn’t for sissies, and it not only gives you a great stretch, but also improves your strength.
Wow, that Luke did a good job. I was going out on the run when I saw him coming in, he had about 2 miles to go. I didn’t think he was winning. Didn’t know who he was but he did look strong ( I thought it was just someone out running on the course because there where people out doing that). Then I saw DeBoom with about 3 miles to go wearing the number “1” and assumed he was winning. I counted off to the pro’s behind DeBoom what place they were in as they passed by me but I was off by one place. How’s that!
