Low Max HR and Changes

Last year my max hr was 187 and this year I can’t seem to get it over 178. It also seems that I am racing at about 5 bpm lower this year also. I racing at the same level but just wonder what the drop in a year.

The only meds I am on are singular and combivant for asthma.

Any thoughts?

O

  1. You’re older.
  2. You’re in better shape - I believe fitness doesn’t really change your max HR (it’s genetics), but it can make it harder to get to it. Maybe your heart just doesn’t need to beat that fast to get your blood where it needs to be.
  3. The batteries are dying on your HRM and the stress of hitting the higher number requires too much battery power.
  4. You’re dyslexic - last year it really said 178 and you only thought it said 187.
