My heart rate seems to be really low especially while riding on my indoor trainer. Hovering around 110 BPM while my perceived output is high. While running at a General Aerobic pace my heart rate is around 130BPM. I can’t seems to get it any higher. Could this be a sign of over training?
If this were a sign of over training it would be an anomaly. Is your heart rate always like this or is it just recently? If you don’t know, take a couple of rest days and try again.
I think we would need more info to know if you’re overtraining, but for what it’s worth my heart rate is lower on the bike than when I’m running at the same perceived effort. I don’t think that’s unusual.
Thanks. I’ll take a day or two off and see where I’m at.
Typically your HR will be about 10 beats lower on the bike then running as running is weight bearing and cycling is not.
was never true for me, when I ran, HR was always the same running as TTing, ie high. must be why tendonitis always flared up, did not know how to run easy
110 is very low, compared to myself at least. What has it been in the past at similar effort levels?
my heartrate stays low as well between 110-120bpm (38-years old) when steady riding indoors on a trainer. I am not too concerned during the winter and don’t really prescribe to the ‘pain cave’ approach with only some single leg drills and 1-minute ‘harder’ efforts every 5-minutes to kill the monotony. I am just trying to log hours until mother nature lets me out again. i find this approach prevents me from burning out too early in the summer.
Been able to reach 150 during the same intensity before.
Have you manually tested your HR to see whether that 110BPM figure is even accurate?
I have not. Guess I just rely on the HR device too much. I’ll try the manual method next.
I’ve had the same thing this last week a I’ve ramped my training load back up after a recovery week and started adding more quality intensity. I’m watching for signs of overreaching… I thought low HR is one.
However, my HR seems normal when running based on my pace, just cycling. I suspect that my FTP might have bumped up, so now I’m just slacking… which is of coruse why it needs to be tested regularly.
