Low grade but persistent knee pain

I’ve never felt even the slightest twinge in my knees in life. However, last month I overstepped a bit by increasing my running mileage a bit too quickly. Nothing too dramatic, just ran a couple of 35 mile weeks when previously I’d been at about 15 - 20.

Anyway, the pain is dull, and in a strange place: it’s on the inside of my knees. Like, somewhere around where the quad muscle connects. There are reams of discussions about outer knee pain, but this is opposite. Because I’m special.

I’m planning on running every day in Feb, so wanted to run it past all of you thoughtful and experienced persons, and see if you have any insight as to what piece of gristle I overstressed.

If you have pain running every day is probably not a good idea. I’d head to the doc or physio for a consult. There are many knee problems we can develop, judging from where your pain is it could be from your quads being weaker/stronger and pulling the kneecap track off kilt. Pain under the kneecap may indicate inflammation in the pateller bursa which won’t subside if you run every day in feb. Don’t risk your knees, get checked out.

Take a look at patella femoral syndrome - pain sounds similar - but I’m no Dr. Get a real dr’s opinion.

I am dealing with the same exact issue. Its best described as “not really pain just an annoyance.” Mine began after a 1/2 Mary I ran the week of Thanksgiving. Since then I have stopped running, been to PT for a month, been in and out of the Dr’s office, and finally had a MRI this week. Official diagnosis after all this is “patellar subluxation,” which my doc described to me as a dislocated patella. He then tells me that my patella isn’t really dislocated, it just isn’t tracking properly. He wants me to try a cortizone injection, which after 3 months of no running, I will try just about anything. My suggestion to you is rest and get with a good doc to get a proper diagnosis. I tried to run through this initially, and it just made things worse. It has got to the point where I have pain while running, swimming and while on the bike, hell it hurts all the time. Just my $.02.

Damn. Unfortunately that makes perfect sense. Maybe I’ll shoot for running every day in March.

I’m going to possibly cause a rift in space-time and connect two posts:

Related to the above, I’m gonna go find me some socks that were packaged in a salt mine near Chernobyl in the presence of a strong magnet. Surely that’ll help.
