OK, we’ve all heard the comeback “Does a bear $h!t in the woods?”
Well, I don’t know about a bear, but…
It’s only affected me in one race up 'til now (at mile 12 of a 1/2-marathon in the Spring of '06 - RRRRR!!!) But, it happens routinely on long runs and bricks. So, race day feels a lot like what I imagine Russian Roulette feels like. Just hoping for the best.
Anyway, as you’ve probably gathered, I’m having some serious GI issues on the run and need some advice. I’m not sure if my problem stems from too much fiber in my diet (suspected cause - I eat a lot of fruits & vegetables), too much dairy (perhaps - I drink a lot of milk) or something else. But, whatever it is, I’m going to start experimenting with less fiber & dairy the two days before long runs and races.
What I need is advice on what foods are considered “low fiber”. I know that I want to cut out the fruits, vegetables, nuts, whole grain pasta and wild rice and substitute things like white rice, white pasta, white bread and pretzels. But, I’d like some more options on the low fiber side.
Anyone have any suggestions?
And, for the pretzels… Is that hard pretzels (like what you’d be in a chip bag) or large soft pretzels? Both? Sourdough?
Thanks.
Steve
