Low back pain (1)

I’ve been experiencing some low back pain with the recent lowering of my bars. Is this something that I will overcome, or do I need to move them back?

Depends on how much you moved them. Typically, changes should be made in very small increments, did you make the change in one big jump, because that’s what it sounds like! Move it back for a few weeks, then move down again but with small changes for slow adaption.

I have experienced the same thing when I made an adjustment to the aero bars. For me, the pain went away after a couple of weeks. My pain started in the neck and extended down to the lower back. In addition to lowering the bars, I also added more stretching sessions to limber up for a more aero position. I found that being more flexible helped alot in the adjustment process, obviously. Let me know what happens.

Whoa! Bring the bars back up to where they were. Now, start a serious stretching routine so you can coach your body into more flexibility. Yoga poses are very good for this purpose. Once a steady consistent level of flexibility has been achieved you may begin to lower the bars at small increments. Remember there is a limit to your flexibility so at some point “getting lower” is counter-productive. I suggest seeing a professional fitter that can measure your flexibility and fit you accordingly. I have had excellent results with a local shop that uses the Serrotta method of fitting.

My 2 cents worth.

I think I probably moved them a little too much. I will move them back up and begin stretching. This would probably be beneficial anyway. Thanks.
