We’re so flooded here we can’t even leave the building. About 18 to 24 inches of water and flowing inside. The City is going to have a ton of work to do to get the IMLou venue in ship shape. No end to the rain in sight…
I haven’t swam in over 6 months. Until this morning. I usually ride or run to from work. This morning I got up, and my wife said “How ya going to get to work today, honey?” and I said “Backstroke!”.
That’s some bad weather. I just looked at the forecast and it looks like storms most of the week. I know the summer in Chicago has been significantly cooler this year. How has this summer compared to last year. Is it cooler or just more percipitation. I was visiting in mid June and it was brutally hot and a lot of people were saying it was a anomaly in the hot direction.
For the first time in recorded history, we did not reach 90 degrees in July. It’s been the coolest Summer on record, and one of the wettest. Which is going to make for a beautiful Fall.
might make for cooler IM Lou. Wouldn’t that be the day… As long as its not raining. Although on the other hand, that’s all we’ve been training up here in.
That is my dream that for IMLOU we have temps in the low 80s and wet suit legal (with a good down river flow), maybe even a little cloud cover too. OK, that’s way too much to ask.

It is going to be like up until race weekend when the 100 degree temps and high humidity come rolling in. Then again I am being a little pessimistic right now since my rear derailluer hanger on my Cervelo decided to break in two on Friday.

Definetly we had whole week of rain in memphis last week cooler while humid but now this week the heat is back heat index over 100 so I figure louiville will be back like that next week.
I hope its hot personally 2007 I was cold on the bike when that cold front came through night before the race with wind from north east(made nice tail wind on the long stretch to the finish.
First loop I was hopeing to find a coffee shop to get some hot coffee. Guess was from all the training in 100 plus temp days leading up to the race and then race day temp dropped 15 degrees.
But never know this wierd weather pattern last few weeks temps in 100’s in northwest then was actually cooler in vegas week ago then all the rain who knows what it will be like.
could make for some fast current in the river if more upstream rain continues. I remember 2007 only took me 7 minutes longer to swim the downstream portion than the upstream even though twice the distance.
I guess that it doesnt matter to me what happens as long as the swim doesnt get canceled.
There are definitely high water situations where it would clearly be unsafe to hold the swim… in which case they would do one of those crazy things… which I would prefer didnt happen. Right now it is not safe to swim in the KY river … and I imagine the Ohio is in the same shape.
I wonder if they have worked out a plan for that? Duo? Just bike/run?

Actually you will be fine. It is going to be cool until Labor Day; the 3 hottest weeks of the year will be after that with the hottest day being Sept 13 to cooincide with IMWI. I know this because I sat out last year’s IMWI when the temps were beautiful and am doing it this year thereby jinxing the event to terrible temps. I think I have your pessimism trumped
everyone keeps talking about the upriver fast swim, but I looked at the swim times and they seem to be about 5 min. slower for the the 60 min. swimmers.
