Can anybody reccommend a decent route to run in the Brownsboro area of Louisville? My business has me visiting Louisville on a semi-regular basis and so far I’ve resorted to running laps around a nearby residential neighborhood (and once around WalMart) but that’s getting pretty old.
I stay in the Westport Road area near the Ford plant and can’t necessarily count on access to a car so… can anyone reccommend a running route that is accessible from the area? What’s Tom Sawyer Park like? I’m looking for something in the 5-8 mile range.
I live 4 to 5 miles from where your stay. Several options exist linking the neighborhoods together behind the Holiday Inn Express. As you go north the neighborhoods get better, crossing HWY 22 will take you into more rolling terrain, with a few horse farms and upscale developments. Tom Sawyer park has a one mile crushed stone path, and 5 and 10K cross country courses.
Tom Sawyer is nice, 50 meter outdoor pool too. I don’t know the routes that well, but one of my training partners does. PM me and I can get the two of you hooked up via email or something.
If you drive west on Westport Rd (6-7 miles?) you’ll be near Seneca Park. There’s a 5K cross country trail as well as the start and finish for a 5 mile, 8 mile and 10K road courses (which all go through adjacent Cherokee Park) that are all marked with arrows. You’ll also see a whole bunch of other runners and cyclists
Thanks everyone, it’s all good info. Didn’t know about the pool at Tom Sawyer Park - that definitely opens up another possibility.
I’m perfectly happy to know about the stuff at Seneca Park too. As for the car issue, I do actually have one but I’m usually traveling with 2-3 co-workers. Most of the time, they want to take the car downtown to go out to eat or go drinking while I opt to stay behind and get my workout in. Even when the car is around, it’s kind of bad form to run off and leave the others stranded at the hotel. So the car is often not an option, but sometimes it is.
Just be warned, the Tom Sawyer pool has no lanes lines, and it a popular place for triathlete groups (mostly newbies) to train for a pretty big sprint race in August that the park puts on. They have some classes in the pool until about 7pm, when it opens for lap swimming again, and can get pretty crowded. The lack of lane lines makes it a fun swim.
roughly, 50 miles, 1 hr, 50 mile, 1 hr. Leaving from St Francis and doing the IM loop, back to school, run somewhere, maybe 1694. repeat. meeting monica and nina, maybe victor, out there between 7-7:30ish. nina is just riding. monica is too damn fast on the run for me but she promises to be gentle.
****I just remembered that I have my long run (18 miler) scheduled for Thurs so 2hrs of running Sat. might not fit my recovery needs. However, you never know; I like your workout for that day. If things change I’ll let you know. At any rate, Chappy and I will more than likely see you guys out on the course.

I called Tom Sawyer park and they said the pool closes every night at 6:30. DO you guys know some local lore that the guy on the phone wasn’t admitting to?
