The Louisville, Kentucky area is an absolutely great place to live and work. The City is focusing on creating bike lanes around the City and there’s a lot of emphasis on healthy lifestlyles. The City recently went smoke-free in public places, so enjoying your meal in a restaurant without being smoked out is now possible.
I live in Southern Indiana, right across the Ohio River, but my business is HQ’d in Louisville. This is the longest place my wife and I have ever lived at, over 20 years now. As kids, we each moved about ever 5 years. A great place to raise a family.
Most of your questions can be answered at www.greaterlouisville.com or maybe www.ypal.org or www.louisvillelandsharks.org
Good luck. PM me if you need more…
While not Chicago, Phoenix … it is sufficiently big and still has a small city feel. Tons of parks, Jefferson Memorial, Cherokee, Seneca, etc. Plenty of industry, Ford, UPS, Humana, etc. Location is good, plenty of races not far away (i.e. Muncie - 3 hrs, HFP Racing - 2-3 hrs away, etc). We got Ironman here - nice triathlon community (http://www.louisvillelandsharks.org/), local triathlons (http://www.louisvillelandsharks.org/). Lots of other events: AVP event, Rider Cup, PGA championship, Dew Action sports tour, Senior Games, etc.
You can get out of the city and vast array of country roads to ride and not be bothered (plenty of rolling terrain). Sufficient pool choices. Always large crowds of runners in Cherokee/Seneca park on saturday/sundays.
Great place to live!!!
I grew up in Louisville, currently living in Chicago, and you can’t beat the park system. Seneca and Cherokee are my favorite parks. The parks are the thing I miss most about Louisville. The riding is good with rolling hills and you can get out of the city pretty quickly onto country roads.
What area of town are you going to work?
I think that Louisville is great place to live and train. The parks system is wonderful and only getting better. There is currently a plan in place to make a 100 mile cycling/running path by connecting the cities parks that would circle the city. There is not a lot of opportunity for open water swimming but there are plenty of pools around.
thanks for all the feedback guys…not sure which side of town we would live on. my fiance might have a job oppurtunity flying for UPS, so were just waiting to see what happens…is it pretty easy to bike out of the city to some good roads? it looks do-able,but having not been there before its hard to tell…good info. on all the parks. how many miles of trails are there in close proximity to downtown? i heard cost of living is decent as well…also a plus that ironman is there and some of the other race options as well…we currently live in houston and its just a bit too big, hard to bike out of town and there are only maybe 7-8 miles of trails…soft surface trails, not concrete…thanks again!
