Is this run pretty good? Exactly how does it work? I don’t know if I am going to be able to handle the HFCS of the bottled endurance formula so I was thinking of putting a couple bottles in special needs and just taking water from the aid stations.
Keep in mind that the race will be a hundred degrees, and so your stuff will be too!
Last year there were “spotters” that were maybe about 100-150 yards up from special needs and you would call your number out (or maybe it was raise your hand) and they would relay your number back to the station. By the time you got there someone had your bag holding it out for you to grab. The mechanism worked pretty well, but obviously there is a bit of congestion as people slow down to grab their stuff, some pull over, etc. Particularly as you come through on the 2nd lap.
As as another poster commented, your stuff is pretty much sitting out in the sun until you get it in 90-plus degree weather, so it won’t likely be cold.
Well barring any unforseen issues, I should be pulling through there early enough in the day that it won’t get too hot. Also I would rather drink my digestable stuff warm and use their plain cold water to cool down rather than drink cold stuff I am going to puke later.
Use a $3 soft lunch cooler. Freeze your Nutrition or add a frozen bottle of water in the cooler. If it has a strap you can use it like a musett and roll TDF style.
The special needs is like any other race. But I was pissed because you don’t get your stuff back. Guess they throw the bags out. I lost a spare tubular and some CO2.

Don’t worry no matter what time you come through special needs it will be hot.
For planning purposes here is the hour by hour weather for tomorrow. http://www.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/findweather/getForecast?query=40201&hourly=1&yday=220&weekday=Sunday
gatorade endurance formula is NOT made with HFCS.
Ingredients: Sugcrose, dextrose, citric acid, sodium citrate, monopotassium phosphate, salt, natural lemon and lime flavors with other natural flavors, calcium lactate, calcium silicate(a flow agent), magnesium oxide, yellow 5
I don’t know if Lou is different than others, but you can get your special needs
back at IMAZ for instance.
You just have to show up the next day and find your bag. I wouldn’t PLAN on
getting it back in case someone steals it that next day (there is no bag checking/etc)
but you have a pretty good chance.

and also just a FYI…
don’t put a freakin can of red bull into your run special needs bag and try to take a sip halfway through the run. horrible!!! nothing like a sip of 150 degree red bull at mile 14 of the run.

The premixed stuff at the bike aid stations is. No clue why but it is.

powder is not, pre-mix is. Same for standard gatorade formula.
