Loss of training & Antibiotics

For the 1st time in 12 years I need to use antibiotics due to a cold turning nasty on me and turning into bronchitis. I must admit I’m generally very healthy and suffer no real illness and just the odd once a year cold, maybe (until this year).

I suppose the question is that I have been unable to train for almost 2 weeks now and I’m advised not to start until completing the course of antibiotics. This will take me to almost 3 weeks without training. I was already doing a serious amount of base training and swimming well when I fell ill (Maybe pushing it 1 day too far when starting to feel the effect of the cold).
Anyone dare to tell me where my fitness levels will be when I start training again and how much influence medication might have on the body? I suspect I should have eased off the 1st day when feeling the cold coming…

The rest will make you feel great. After a break like that it feels like alot of lactic acid builds up and then you feel you lost your edge. I take it slow and increase as the ride progresses and usually end with a few hard efforts to wake things up a bit. In a few days you will feel as if you didn’t miss a beat. If your mucus has good color and your fever is gone I would bundle up nice and warm and do a few easy days that final week. The exercise will boost the imune system and get things flowing again. I don’t know your doctor and I’m not one and if my advice kills you I’d feel bad, but my doctor has never told be to wait until I was done with the meds to begin exercise. I would cut back to half or less though and pay attention to weak you feel and let that be your guide. That’s as long as you can shut it off and try to train through what your body is telling you especially how the lungs feel.
