Lose weight to run faster

This is interesting. This question has come up many times on this forum, and this calculator is cool. Not sure it has any real value, but age and weight graded times are cool to play around with.

Link should be working now.

I don’t think that calculator is accurate. The age grading part of it may be accurate but the weight loss calulator is waaaaaayyyyyy off.

I am 194 lbs right now and can run a 40 min 10k - non-race and on the track. I am confident that when I lose another 20 lbs of fat I will be running around 34-35 minutes for 10k. My PB is 33’23" when I was 168 lbs. If I could get down my weight another 30 lbs to 143 lbs (which is what the grading is based on), I bet I would be flying and would easily drop another couple of minutes off.

I am not dreaming - this is personal experience.

Seems strange that it doesn’t ask for your height, either. A 5’ tall persone weighing 143 lbs is very different from a 6’ tall person weighing 143 lbs.

I don’t think it’s very accurate either, but it’s amusing. I’m 42, 150 lbs and usually run 35:30-36:00. It says that if I drop 5 lbs, my age/weight graded time would be 33:12. Ummmm, not even close.

Not that I was planning on losing any weight, but I think I lost a few pounds between June and now and I was curious to see what this calculator predicted for my change in running time. Since my starting weight was 105, apparently I can’t use it–or most fit female runners for that matter (except for the tall ones).
