I’m not all that experienced with working on bikes. I’ve got a loose spoke on my back wheel. Looking at it, it’s slightly bent and can be twisted around.
Is this something I should fix immediately? Would it be dangerous to ride on such a wheel?
Any bike techs out there, that can respond?
Some new wheels will get a loose spoke , but most are cause by a beginners truing job. At least buy a spoke wrench and tighten it a bit , to see if your wheel still runs true. I would not ride it if it clicks or moves with just a finger tap. Sturm the others to get an idea of tension changes in the wheel.
FooFighterFan,
Loose spoke left alone and not corrected = bigger problem in future. Far enough in future, spell “catastrophic wheel failure”. Like more spokes loosening as a result first spoke loosening. The wheel and spokes will try to balance the tension discrepancies by themselves. Wheel beomes a little wobbly on climbs out of saddle. Ultimately wheel will catch rear derailleur and wrap it around top side of rear dropout. This usually destroys the rear derailleur. Also not uncommon is damage to right chainstay.
Is that good enough for you? If you don’t know how to fix it yourself and the importance of balancing forces on the wheel, have your LBS fix it for you. ASAP if you value your ride. Good luck.
