Looks like Serotta's got a carbon bike, too

No pics yet, but Ben Serotta was seen riding a full carbon bike recently. It’s lugged so that it can be custom sized…even has carbon dropouts in the rear. I’ll see what else I can find out…

Meivici. Reputed to cost $8,000. Not sure what this says about their claim about their previous high end bike: “It is specifically designed and utilized to create the perfect ride – the Ottrott.”

There are some photos of the one existing frame on the Serotta forum, along with some interesting discussion about the price and other things.

I own a Serotta Legend road bike, for full disclosure. A wonderful bike.

Geez. The market seems to be getting flooded with these ultra high-end crazy customs now adays. I just saw that wacky aero Seven frame for the first time. I really don’t see many people spending that much money. $5k+ for a frame? Yikes. I am all for custom geometry if you really know what you want/need (or have an exceptional fitter), but one hard fact remains- they’re hard to get in and out of (i.e. sell). Now when you look at spending upwards of five thousand on just a frame, that becomes pretty scary. I also have a problem with ultra high-end parts in general. I’m almost afraid to really use them to their potential. That’s one reason I hardly ever train on my Zipps. I know if I crash them, the replacement cost is much more than that of my training wheels. Same thing with Record and Dura Ace. The only DA parts I have are pedals and one set of brakes. My Campy bike is all Chorus (which is still expensive!). My bikes are very nice, but not to the point where I’m afraid to ride them in poor conditions or on some rough roads. I guess it’s all just a money issue- I’m a college student. It seems that cycling has become similar to autos… the only people riding/driving the Colnago’s, Serotta’s, Pinarello’s, Ferrari’s, and Porsche’s are either sponsored racers or rich guys who rarely use the machines to their full potential. The “rest of us” must stick to our Ultegra bikes and Camaro’s… but I think we have more fun

Sorry for straying so far from the main topic… I felt the need to get up on my soapbox for a moment there.

search for “tuna” threads too, there’s a lot of debate going on about the bike. Its coming out at Interbike. Remember though, this 8K$ price tag is for the “Limited Release MeiVici model it will be sold as a frame and fork combination for $7995” So hopefully the regular bike will be less (not that I’ll be able to afford it.) Also, they axed the CSi, their longstanding flagship steel bike…

WOW that is Ballsy.

I ride a serotta Nove and i would be willing to bet I do not fit your demographic. I would also bet that I ride more than you.

I want the best ride and performance I can afford. end of discussion.

he goes to Purdue…give him a break:)
