Well, No GFT for me damnit. I think that god did not want me to race that race, first the idiot in the van running me off the road, then the old man in a Neon destroying my car. Today I tried to get on the Litespeed and could not make it around the block due to the bruising on my ribs, liver and kidney on the right side. I still pee blood and I guess that is kinda normal for a day or two…if it lasts till Monday I am supposed to call my doctor back.
I got a call from the hospitals Radiology dept today telling me that I had impacted and possibly damaged C1 at the site of my last C1 – C2 fracture and they want me to “rest” and do nothing but “rest” until I get an MRI that they are scheduling for me on Sunday (not a great voice mail to get as my phone was dead all day they left a message). I am not sure how they did not happen to notice that as I was in the ER…but, if they did they would have sent me home all the same.
So, my favorite car is dead, I feel like hell and can not move. My ribs and neck are killing me, I piss blood and I don’t see how I am going to be able to race next Sat……fucking great. All I can really say is thank god I had a roll cage installed into my car a couple years back (for the race track) - let there be no question that the roll cage is the only reason that my car looks as good as it does, and I am not in the morgue right now.
damn dude…to say it’s been a shitty month for you would be an understatement, but like you said, your alive, everything else can be replaced and you will race another day until then get some rest.
Chip,
Looking at the pics, and your comments, I assume your roll cage also went along the door area? or side collision bars are getting better. You took a hell of a hit on the drivers side for the door to look that good. I just releized it looks like that door still worked?
You are one fortunate person. Hope you heal fast. Get lots of rest, your body must be pretty damn sore.
I’m sorry that you won’t be there, as I expect that trash-talk will now be reduced in both quantity and quality. Feel better and don’t do anything (too) stupid. If you want, you are still welcome to attend the race and cheer for everyone that passes me…
BTW, the national hurricaine center is now tracking a tropical depression that is scheduled to hit the gulf around the latitude of Orlando sometime late Friday. Should be amusing.
Sht, sht, sh*t. Looked forward to meeting you and being in a race with a legend. Only good thing is that tropical storm thing can now go elsewhere as you won’t be there to attact it. Since you have the fitness, could you still pick up an community fund slot for IMF? Anyway, take care – it’s just a race and you still got your life – thus not are in order.
Ah yeah, internal injuries are nothing to laugh at. Anything that has you peeing blood is just not good. And definitely not worth risking your life to go race. Not that we aren’t risking our lives with the gators, cement trucks and cardiac arrest on seeing Sugarloaf at mile 95.
Get well, both of you, and race again next year. Maybe by then I’ll be competition…NOT!
Well, I tried to swim today - hurt like hell but I got in 2000 yards…I am cool with that, I ran 8 tonight and felt great (sore on the right, but - running felt really good)…I am going to go to Orlando no matter what. If I think I can suffer through the swim I am in. Even if I finish in 2:19 I will be in - anyone know the water temps?
The bike is still touch and go, I am mounting another fork tonight so I can get the bars up about 2" to see if that helps out my side and back…screw injury…IronMan is not about reasons you cant go, it is about making it to the race…getting in the water and it is all easy from there.
Oh…and no blood in the pee today…went to the dog park with a buddy who is a trauma ortho surgeon…He told me that I couldnt really damage anything by racing really…just make sore muscles more sore…I can deal with sore.
Chip … what does it feel like to have your hand on the doorknob that opens the door to eternal greatness? =)
I held back my “I’m so sorry you’re not going comments” b/c I know you’re stupid. While, that doesn’t sound like a compliment … it is. As long as the worst you can do is extend the soreness, I hope you rokk the course.
I guess one could say, “Chip, don’t try to be a hero” … but, I’m almost as dumb as you are … go be a hero, Chip.
I feel sorry for your son. One day, he’s gonna say he doesn’t want to go to sports practice b/c he’s not feeling well. You’re gonna say, “What?! I did GFT with busted ribs and a bruised kidney … get your practice gear on” … and you’re gonna have that smirk on your face … that same smirk you’ve had since the day you finished GFT with … well, busted ribs and a bruised kidney.
Also … I hear there’s a nice Kia dealership just outside of Cleremont. Check it out.
Seriously, best of luck. Machismo still exists in our society. Who knew?
I feel for you, Chip. My GFT is also dead, due to a stoooopid knee infection from a cut I took while I was inspecting an aircraft bin on one of our planes and which I was then too busy (again, stoooopid of me) to get properly treated because I was so wrapped up in finishing up my training plan. Supposedly, I’m fairly intelligent, though you can’t prove it by my total lack of common sense. You truly are a victim of circumstance, and that has to make it doubly disappointing for you, I don’t doubt.
If I’m lucky, I’ll be able to do something at the end of the month. And looking at what happened to you, I thank God you were all right. Rest up, recuperate and come back stronger than ever, bro.
