I used to race long distance tris with a dialed-in tri bike but downsized to just a rode bike in the last two years. Looking to do a Half IM with a friend and need to convert my Cervelo Soloist to tri bike. Already swapped seat for steeper angle but need clip on bars. It has been a few years - who makes a minimalist yet comfortable clip-on aero set up? I want something that makes me look fast but go even faster. Looks like ITU draft legal racers are using the Vision Tech Mini Clip-On - is it too small? Please provide any suggestions…
Hed flip-lite or clip-lite (whatever they’re calling them these days) are pretty nice, replace the arm rest pads and they are even nicer.
YES, the vision mini clipon is TOO small and also uncomfortable.
avoid any of the mini or shorty options if you’re serious about riding 2+ hours in an aero position…the ITU draft-legal crew are limited by equipment regs, you aren’t. can’t go past Profile’s T2 extensions IMHO…cheap and infinitely adjustable. i have them mounted on a road frame, which i ride reasonably steep (76ish), like yourself
Hed Cliplite is probably the best clip on aerobar.
I have a pair of the HED Flip-Lites on my winter road bike and they are the best aerobar (when used with drops) that I have ever used for sure. I had them set up with the Oval single bend for a while on my Tri bike but then got the Easton Attach TT bars and now have the HED’s on my road bike and love them with the S-bend’s. If you do not like the s-bends them see if you can get some single bend extensions on Ebay.
Other options are the Oval A910 (I have these as well), and maybe a pair of the small Vision aerobars with all the spacers removed from the armrests so that the pads are as low to the drop bars as possible.
Profiles are popular as well but I just hate the weight of their aerobars. I think they are getting way better with the new aerobars that they are coming out with.
Zipp Vuka for me on my training rig.
