Hi!
can anybody tell me which stem Bjorn Andresson is using here :
http://forum.slowtwitch.com/gforum.cgi?post=79404;search_string=bjorn%20anderson;#79404
Will it fit my Cannondale IM800 ?
How will such a short stem influence the handling of the bike ?
Thank you!
Look in this month’s issue of Triathlete, it mentioned the brand. It is not a short stem, but an adjustable stem moved all the way down. It looks short, but is probably 120mm.
thank you for the quick answer !
I will have a look then …
Is someone producing shorter stems (shorter than 90mm or so ) or do I have to use this trick to simulate a short stem? (I have tried searching the net but couldn´t find anything usefull )
any comments on handling issues ?
(I am afraid the bike might get a bit “wiggely” (can you say that?) i.e. oversensetive - but I am feeling too stretched out the way the bike is set up at the moment)
Profile makes $39 stems in a wide variety of sizes and shapes. I have one on my bike. It is 85mm long with a slight rise (they call it 90 degrees) that can’t be flipped since it is the same both ways. Tri-zone has them, as do all3Sports, Nytro and probably others. They come in every length from 60 to 140 if I remember correctly with 80, 90, 105 and 115 degree rise. All but the 90 can be flipped to achieve some degree of negative rise. I believe the 105 or 115 flipped will achieve a fairly level stem.
I have been looking at this myself.
The 85 degree stem handles just fine on my tri bike, but the 50mm rake fork probably has something to do with that.

Profile Design has down to 50 or 60 mm stems:

I think there’s a company called “Blackwell” or some similar name that also makes some pretty short stems.
The stem on Bjorn’s bike was reported as an ITM Millennium Adjustable stem, which you will note only comes in 100 mm or 120 mm lengths:

On the handling front: I have a 60mm stem on a 2002 Cervelo One and don’t have any issues with it. I can’t say that I’ve tried longer stems though to know whether they would handle better, so I defer to some of the geometry experts on the forum.
If you do switch out for a shorter stem and find that in the first few rides things feel too “twitchy”, don’t worry too much. Give it a few more rides and see if you get used to the new handling. It’s sort of like switching between two vehicles with standard transmissions - it takes a while to get used to the clutch on the new vehicle, but once you do it seems right again!
Supergo sells a brand that makes them down to 70mm or so. Got one for the daughter and it works great.
Thank you for all the information!
I think either the ITM adjustable or the profile design 60mm stem might do the job.
