Looking For Groupo/Fast Wheels

I am looking to upgrade my wheels and components.
I am currently riding Shimano 105 and some clip on bars. What is the difference between Ultrega and Dura-Ace and is it worth it? I am also debating between a HED tri-spokes and a ZIP disc any recomendations for the fastest combo? If any one could point me in the right direction that would be great. Also if you know of a good place to buy from let me know.

Thanks,

E

are you looking for a tt groupo or a road groupo?

if tt then weight and price would be the greatest difference between ultegra and dura-ace. save soem money here and go with ultegra, apply that extra money to wheel purchase.

as for wheels, there is no fastest wheelset. all sets are going to be stronger and weaker depending on the terrain. a good average overall set would be something like a Zipp 606 or hed Jet 6/9/ combo. if you’re a faster rider or a bigger rider with good bike handling a Zipp 808 set or Jet 9 set might make more sense.

As an aside, an aero helmet and rear wheel cover would be significantly cheaper and provide more aero benefit than upgrading the bike groupo.

Probikekit has some good deals on groups and wheels I believe.

I would suggest at least Ultegra. I coach lots of people, and work on bikes too. There is a big difference b/w 105, and Ultegra/Dura-Ace. If you have some kind of a budget – Ultegra is the way. The main difference b/w U/D-A is the weight – both of them are good quality.
Race wheels – well assuming that you can not buy 10 different wheels I would go with something universal – something that you can use on hilly, and flat course. If you would be interested I have 1 used pair of Beyond Fabrication 62mm, and 1 pair of 85mm – both used only once @ Ultraman World Championship – would save you lots of money. I can even get you new pair of any of these or any combination. Let me know.

TT Kit would be great
.

For TT I’d shop around for ultegra 6600. now that 6700 is coming out in a couple of months 6600 is getting some big discounts.

I’d look around for SRAM Rival or old Force or Shimano Ultegra (SL) and a Flashpoint 80/80 or 60/80 (plus a disc cover for the FP80 rear) or a PT wheel with a cover (if you are inclined to train with power, which can be very helpful, but is not for everyone). Flashpoints - relative to Zipp wheels - are much cheaper for only marginally less performance.

As others have mentioned, Ultegra is going to be a steal. SRAM is also updating their grouppos, so you might also find some good prices on that stuff as well.

The biggest question, I think, is if you might want a powermeter as part of your upgrade.
