I raced an Olympic Distance Tri yesterday 3 weeks out of an iron distance race. I took a week off and hoped back into training to complete the rest of my race schedule this year. I’ve run an open1:35 HM, 1:42 run split in a HIM, a 34 min 4 miler in a 1k swim, 25 mile bike Tri this year so I thought a 42 minute run split yesterday was a realistic goal on a flat course (bike mega flat too). My stomach locked up at mile 3 and my day was done (46 min RS). I want to blame it on the gel I took at mile 24 on the bike but im told it wasnt the gel. The reality is I havent been using the nutrition in training that ive been using when I race. I really feel like i held back on the bike yesterday as well. questions: Did my stomach cramp because I went to hard on the bike? Because I had to much fuel in body? Because my stomach wasnt used to nutrition I was taking in? Am I still not fully recovered from my race 3 weeks ago? Maybe its a combination of everything.
Impossible to pinpoint but I would lean towards saying you should train and race with the same nutrition. For all you know you could be allergic to your in-race nutrition.
When you say your stomach cramped, how would you describe it?
Sharp pains in your stomach?
Feeling of pressure?
Something else?

sharpe pain underneath the right side of my abdominal. it literally felt like someone was holding the right side on my stomach very tightly. I couldn’t hold any type of form in my upper extremities.
